I download the songs from a website, not buy them from iTunes. Am I able to transfer the songs to my iPod from iTunes?

Yes you can use iTunes. Just drag all the songs into the iTunes music library, then click Sync button you can transfer all the songs into your iPod shuffule. Make sure your songs are .mp3 or .m4a.

I recommend use imelfin iTransfer. ImElfin iTransfer allows you to Synchronize iTunes libary with your iPod/iPhone. i have been using an iPod to iPod/iphone/iTunes Transfer Tool and it always works well.
